DDB Australia’s Jenny Mak joins Jnr

DDB creative partner Jenny Mak has joined independent agency Jnr as its executive creative director and partner.

Mak joins co-founders John Marshall and Ryan O’Connell, following several new client wins and campaign launches, including Muffin Break, Rotorua NZ, and Outward Bound NZ.

Marshall, managing director, said her arrival marks a “pivotal moment” for the agency.

“Ryan and I are thrilled to welcome a creative leader of her calibre and vision to the business,” he said in a release.

The Jnr. team. (L-R):

“Her passion, insight, and proven track record will elevate our work and accelerate the next chapter of our growth. She brings the experience of a senior, with the energy and curiosity of a junior. Which is exactly what jnr. stands for.”

O’Connell, chief strategist, added that she is “one of the most talented, kind, and mature creative leaders out there”.

“The industry doesn’t have enough leaders like her, so this is a real win for Jnr,” he said.

The pair launched Jnr early 2024, describing it as a “simple, but smart” agency. The effectiveness-led, full-service creative agency has two main focuses — effectiveness and personality.

Mak joins from DDB Group Australia, where she has spent the last three-and-a-half years as creative partner. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade at Ogilvy — where she worked with O’Connell — in various creative roles. She also has experience from Innocean, Grey Group, and BWM.

She has led campaigns for Volkswagen, Westpac, Coca-Cola, Huggies, U by Kotex, and Transport for NSW among others.

Mak said Jnr has a “fearless spirit”. Combined with its commitment to creativity and collaborative culture, she said it “perfectly aligns” with her values.

“Together, we’ll push creative boundaries, deliver work that works, and foster a workplace where diverse voices and ideas thrive,” she said in the release.
