Durex uses giant cock to target gay community
Durex is launching its biggest ever campaign targeting the gay community in the run-up to Sydney Mardi Gras.
The campaign is to run in DNA Magazine, Star Observer, Grindr, Gay News Network, Guide to Gay, Manhunt.net, Pink Sofa, Lesbians on the Loose, JOY 94.9 digital and Q-news.
Another creative execution targets lesbians with Durex’s women’s lubricant range.
The campaign was created by Euro RSCG, with media by ZenithOptimedia and gay and lesbian specialist sales network Pink Media Group.
Ben Mulcahy, MD of Pink Media Group, said: “We are delighted to be working on so many exciting campaigns during the Mardi Gras period, but this market spends all year round so it’s the advertisers who continue to promote relevant products and services who will truly establish brand loyalty.”
Headline of the year.
That is fantastic!! I love it! But no credit line for the very talented illustrator???
Can’t wait to see the lesbian version… my mind is ticking over with what they’ll do with a giant pussy!!
I like it! Has the cock reference ever been done before for condom adverts? I would have thought so, as it seems so appropriate!
so done by straight creatives
This is made of all sorts of win. You’ve also got the headline down to attract page views haha.
70s stereotypes work brilliantly.
I like it.
Only running in magazines and no outdoor? Would love to see this ad erected somewhere.
Do lesbians use condoms?
@alison F – i cant see a condom company targeting lesbians any time soon…
@Confused…. maybe read the article for a clue… hehehe!
From the article above… “Another creative execution targets lesbians with Durex’s women’s lubricant range.”
No-one is suggesting lesbians need condoms…
So cocky…
lesbians use condoms on pleasure devices…
I loves it! Totes funny.
This is going to rubber a lot of people the wrong way.
Am I the only one that saw this and thought “Village People”… clichéd I know but they could have had a range of posters with a giant cock dressed up to represent each of the different characters… just a thought
I’ve finally learnt something new from reading the comments on mumbrella.
Thanks 2.45pm.
How come you chickened out in the email and said Rooster!
What does a rooster have to do with Durex? This ad is a giant cock-up if you ask me!
Hi Dan,
Spam filters don’t like words like “cock”, hence the tweak to the subject heading.
Cheers,
Robin – Mumbrella
It must have been hard to find an illustrator who was good at drawing cocks… I’m pretty good at drawing cocks
Robin, the amount of astroturfing on this story is kinda offensive and brings down the credibility of what little vaild commentary there is.
Both Euro RSCG and Pink Media Group should be above this kind of behaviour.
You gonna call them on it?
@mikes Plucked if I know.
I must say this creative could have been a bit more ballsy.
Now if only we can get some snoodling in there.
Good, that is. Nice work all concerned.
You can also put condoms over your fingers, or cut them open to make a dental dam, dearest Confused and Richer Person.
nice wOrk!
