Fleishman-Hillard axes VP of digital media Scott Rhodie
Fleishman-Hillard has made its vice president of digital media Scott Rhodie redundant just seven months after appointing him.
Mumbrella understands that the decision by the PR agency came as part of a round of cost-cutting directed from a regional level.
The agency’s Sydney office has shrunk in recent months from a peak of nearly 30 people including contractors to around 15.
Rhodie – a regular guest on Mumbrella’s weekly podcast – said: “There are nio hard feelings – it’s just business. I understand why they’ve had to do it.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time working with some fantastic cleints and some great, talented colleagues who I hope to work with again at some point.”
Rhodie, who worked as a journalist in Scotland before moving into PR, said that he would be looking for a similar role within the Australian market.
Rhodie is also on of the organisers of the Digital Citizens group, and created the Twitter-driven #shtbox Friday meetups in Sydney.
He blogs on the website Kilt For Hire and tweets as @scottrhodie.
In a new post, he wrote:
“I guess today is Day One of something new. New adventure. New beginning…and the hunt for a new job.”
Fleishman-Hillard GM Walter Jennings was unavailable at the time of posting.
I don’t know this geezer, except from Twitter etc, but he seems like a nice guy and also good at his job. I’m sure he’ll have his pick of roles
His blog post is genuinely hilarious, and actually a great piece of writing to boot
Wasn’t he previously at HotHouse’s social media agency HouseParty?
Hey PJ,
Yeah I was there and was headhunted by FH to head up their digital division. Seemed like a bit of a dream role.
Scott
Scott – I don’t think you will have much to worry about I am sure you will be snapped up pretty quickly ….onwards and upwards! Good luck ….
Best of luck for your next adventure Scott!
Sorry to hear this Scott. I’m sure you’ll have a great new role in no time!!
I’m wondering if Scott was the right person to axe?
Tim,
Apologies I missed your call as I was in a client meeting.
Scott Rhodie is a gifted social media strategist. We deeply appreciate the contributions he made to us and our clients during his tenure at Fleishman-Hillard. We wish him all of the best in his future endeavors, which will no doubt be blessed by his talent, skills and passion for social media.
Walter Jennings
No doubt you’ll be spending the next few weeks relaxing and deliberating among the many offers already coming through.
Sorry to hear about that Scott, I wish you all the best and look forward to keeping in touch.
I’d have no fear about Cap’n Rhodie… This is a man who always lands, cat-like, on his feet. And occassionally feet-like, on a cat.
who else got given the boot? has the whole social media division gone?
Sorry to hear this Scott. I hope your next adventure comes along quickly! 😀
Amazing.. how can a big agency like F-H halve in size and boot out the head of digital (where the whole world is going).. dont understand
