Gruen’s return a ratings winner for the ABC
The return of panel show Gruen was a ratings winner for the ABC last night, with the show grabbing 974,000 metro viewers to be the most-watched non-news show of the evening.
Easily winning its 8.30pm timeslot, the show which returned after a two-year hiatus out-rated Nine’s David Attenborough’s Life Story (472,000) and Seven’s World’s Most Extreme (496,000) and Ten’s Madam Secretary (428,000).
Hosted by Wil Anderson, who is flanked by former ad men Russel Howcroft and Todd Sampson, the show was the third most-watched show amongst viewers aged 16-39 and 18-49 and the second most watched show amongst viewers aged 25-54.
Gruen’s last outing on air, when it was called Gruen Planet, saw the show’s finale watched by 1.004m. It launched with a metro audience of 1.138m viewers.
So the ABC has three of the top ten rating shows of the evening. Does this not highlight the dismal unimaginative content that we see on the commercial networks? (not taking anything away from the ABC) 7/9/10 are playing is so safe that it’s dangerous, they need to kick out the bean counters and suits and hire some people with imagination and vision.
They should just re brand this show as The Art of Smugness. Seriously, these presenters need a reality check.
