‘I leave with my head high’: Mel Hopkins speaks on Seven redundancy
Melissa Hopkins has spoken publicly for the first time since being made redundant as Seven West Media’s chief marketing and audience officer.
Hopkins was one of three big-name departures announced by the network on Wednesday, which also included chief revenue officer Kurt Burnette and Seven Melbourne’s head of sport and managing director Lewis Martin.
In a statement given exclusively to Mumbrella on Thursday, Hopkins said she is proud of the work she has done with the group since joining in December 2022 from Optus.
“I am proud of my contribution over the past 15 months at Seven, the connections I have built, initiatives led and the external perspectives I have been able to provide as Seven firmly shapes itself as a digital first business,” she said.
What an absolute load of self congratulatory crap.
She was there for 18 months!!! They make out like she completely changed the place and had a massive positive influence. All in 18 months!!! Amazing. Usually it takes a year before anyone becomes remotely productive.
She was fired cause the company is dying like all legacy TV media and the last thing they need right now are chief marketing officers on god knows how much salary and benefits.
Buckle up folks. This is just the beginning. Going to be an awful lot of media and marketing people looking for work shortly. Yours truly included.
While this article is certainly an exercise in reputation mgmt for Ms Hopkins amidst the exec cuts at Seven, understand too that redundancy can be one of the most shaking and confidence impacting moments in a person’s career. The market’s *screwed* at the moment, so new jobs in media and marketing are hard to come by….I’m going to be positive about her intent in sharing these statements, and wish her all the best for what comes next.
If you’ve never had that dreaded layoff meeting with HR, kindly keep your negative comments to yourself.
Sounds similar to News Corp. A lot of execs going to be looking for work.
