James Boag dips into pure Tasmanian waters again
The transformational power of Tasmanian water again features in a new campaign for Lion Nathan’s James Boag beer by Publicis Mojo Sydney.
The first ad in the campaign is for James Boag Premium, with a Draught version to follow.
The James Boag Premium ad has been produced as both 60 second and 30 second versions.
Ralph Simpson, Lion Nathan’s premium brand director, said: “The Pure Waters creative has endured because of the simple, powerful truth of the original insight – that from better water comes better beer. That original insight remains the same today and has been leveraged across multiple touch-points over the years – to the point where it has gathered such momentum in the market that it casts a halo effect across the entire Boag’s portfolio.
“Tasmania is a highly emotive place; it conjures up imagery unlike any other area of Australia, and is viewed as pure, mystical and other-worldly. Through Pure Waters we have been able to capture that image and bring our Tassie provenance to life in an engaging way.”
The original Mojo Pure Waters ad won several awards.

Not quite as good as the first one but not bad…
like the first one with completely devoid of charm or humour
Lois…New title…commercial director..I like it woman!!
i like it. shot well. nice feel
but kind of agree that its not as good as it predecessor.
i liked the humour of the first and was expecting a joke at the end
good job though
It’s ‘The Waltons’ meets ‘Dead Calm’… that Jim-Bob looked pretty stupefied BEFORE he got on the piss.
i like it, it feels a lot like Deadman with the black & white and Neil Young guitar sound…
It seems like it’s building up to something big and the end is a bit of an anti-climax.
Plus does anyone else get the feeling that with all the people dipping things into the Tassie water it might not be so pure anymore?!!?
I think i must be too dumb ‘to get this’. Liked the original that was for Boag’s Draught but thought this was a bit pretentious. As others have said – this one’s similar but without the humour. Not all beer ad’s have to be funny – but it did seem to be lacking in something. But then again – i’m happy to be mistaken if someone points out to me the really clever part of this ad i’ve clearly missed. Does the water represent ‘society’, and the bottle ‘hope’?
Had me with the two neck Gibson SG.
Jimmy Page double neck Gibson EDS! Sorry was that a beer ad i got distracted, glad it made the 30 sec edit
Tim – is that you in this advert?
spot on with the deadman comparison. sounds a lot like neil alright. does anybody know if that is a piece of music by a recording artist (and hence available)
Seems like the general consensus across the internet is the ‘Neil Young – Deadman’ comparison, and now holy shit I’m going to watch that movie again.
30 works better than the 60!
