Judith Whelan named editor of the Sydney Morning Herald as Fairfax restructure continues

Whelan editor of the Sydney Morning Herald.
Fairfax has this morning named Judith Whelan as editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, amid an ongoing major restructure within its editorial division.
Whelan was previously the SMH’s news director and becomes the second female editor of the Herald in the newspaper’s history.
Last month, Fairfax announced a major restructure with editor-in-chief of The Age Andrew Holden departing and a shift in power towards digital roles over print roles.
One question: was Whelan on deck when the Sheehan unabomb was placed on page one?
Why would you do it to yourself?
Great to smh promoting a female into this role.
A female as editor. Now another reason why I won’t buy it.
