Koala moves to trademark the ‘bed sofa’

Having a read of the True Local – Hepburn Shire this morning (one of Australia’s last remaining great print publications), Dr Mumbo stumbled across this new innovative design proposal, the ‘Bed Sofa’ from Aussie mattress and furniture brand Koala.

As far as Dr Mumbo can deduce, the brand, with the help of ad agency Thinkerbell has filed a trademark application for the new design, which it later told Dr Mumbo is being positioned as 80% Bed, 80% Sofa.

“Not to be confused with the sofa bed, the Bed Sofa delivers an equally comfortable experience for sleepers, as it does for sitters,” it said.

Dr Mumbo has done a fair share of sleepovers over time, and if only Koala’s new ‘Bed Sofa’ was around for them, there might be a few more years of slumber parties for the wise old nightowl.

Why the Hepburn Shire edition of the True Local you ask, as Dr Mumbo did? Well it turns out the Daylesford/Hepburn area is the Bed & Breakfast Capital of Australia!

Koala reckons this is set to create a “completely new category within the Australian (and global) furniture industry”, with the features differentiating it from a plain old sofa bed being “the bed’s unique elevated sleep from the floor, mimicking that of a real bed”, its ultra-wide storage drawers, its stain resistant fabric and its sideways sleep-technology – distinctively Koala.

While that is all Dr Mumbo could find out just now, the jury is still out… might have to be a case of ‘try before you buy’, and for that, Dr Mumbo’s address can be provided with ease.
