Outdoor body tells Melbournians: Welcome to Adelaide
The Outdoor Media Association’s latest bid to generate conversation around the medium involves posting a “Welcome to Adelaide” billboard – in Melbourne.
The poster has gone up in Kings Way in South Melbourne. According to the organisation, “The outdoor sign is bound to create a stir. Will people do a double take and doubt where they are for a moment? Will they assume the wrong copy has been posted and it’s a stuff-up? Or will they get the joke?”
The billboard is the latest stage of the OMA’s Someone Will Project, which previously included posting a lost snake ad in Sydney.
Err, what is the joke?
Ha ha ha… wait, the joke was meant to be that someone wasted a ton of money, right? no?
Should generate some great conversion about the limits of Outdoor Media’s targeting capabilities
I don’t get it.
This is so clever it goes all the way around past genius and back to abject stupidity. A bad idea, poorly executed.
So this is what you do with an otherwise empty billboard when no one wants to pay real money to post their propaganda on it? Oh.
Seriously. I don’t get it. Can someone please explain the point? Not trying to be smart – just curious.
Is it designed to generate all sorts of trad media and online conversations, thereby proving the power of outdoor to generate conversations and get people thinking? That’s my best guess…..
irony is overrated.
so SA tourism have bought some ad space. Is outdoor in that much trouble it has to make news out of nothing?
It’s to show Melbourne is as boring as Adelaide.
I work in outdoor and I’m actually embarrassed by this.
I’m from Adelaide – and I don’t get it
I’ve lived in Melbourne and Adelaide… where am I?
Um, what the? Lame.
I told you it was hard to get an accurate geo-location for a billboard site using GPS! Proof!
A lame waste of money in my opinion!
Adelaide…. proudly brought to you by Melbourne???
Weird!
