Radio’s rebound continues; Melbourne now almost on par with Sydney

Commercial radio recorded a healthy increase in ad revenue in the month of February – up 5.79% to $51.16 – although growth has slowed compared to the end of last year.

Melbourne posted the most impressive gain – up 8.06% to $15.35 – and is now almost on a par with Sydney, which grew by 4.77% to $15.9 million, as Australia’s largest metropolitan area for radio advertising.

The other figures were:

  • Perth + 6.98% – $7.07 million
  • Brisbane +4.35% – $8.06 million
  • Adelaide + 2.85% – $4.76 million

Commercial Radio Australia CEO Joan Warner noted: “This is good news for the industry and highlights the resilience of the medium in providing a cost effective and targeted form of advertising.”

The figures, compiled by Deloitte, show growth of 7.64% for the eight months in the financial year to date, to $449.72 million, for the five major metropolitan markets.
