Recipe to Riches debuts up on season one finale as audiences down across the board
The second season of Ten’s Woolworths funded series Recipe to Riches debuted to an audience of 561,000 last night, down from last year’s season launch of 616,000, beaten by Nine’s Big Brother, Seven’s Dancing with the Stars and ABC’s 7.30 in its 7.30pm timeslot.
However, it was up on season one’s finale, which was watched by 504,000 metro viewers, according OzTam’s overnight metro ratings.
It was a night where audiences were down across the board, with Nine News at 6pm the only show to crack the 1m audience mark.
Dear TV networks & advertisers,
Your audiences are declining for the following reason:
1. Many of your reality shows are crap.
2. If people want quality TV, they don’t watch your channels. They stream or download.
Audience share stats that don’t include Foxtel, streaming or downloads are probably the most irrelevant measurement numbers in any industry right now.
Personally, I watched a recording of Ep2 from the new seasons of The Walking Dead and American Horror Story last night. I’ll never, ever trust a clown again.
Will we ever again see a time when the major networks will be bold enough to put on some quality shows? Audiences down across the board . . . . are we really surprised?
Let me present some reasons commercial viewership is down:
Ten has bumped far too much content like New Girl, Supernatural and Suits to digital channels, when those shows have significant followings that could only be boosted with promos. And yet we’re stuck with The Bachelor.
I don’t watch Big Brother, but I’m so sick of Nine’s desperate bids to boost it’s viewers with double evictions and intruders. But if it wasn’t for Big Brother, there’d be four nights of Big Band Theory.
And I can’t believe Seven are still running with The X Factor. Sure it rates but when Redfoo is a judge, there’s just no credibility.
I see that audience fragmentation across the secondary channels has nothing to so with it. Odd that total TV viewing is up then.
