Tim Collier heads to cummins&partners as its new head of strategy
Following the announcement that Tim Collier has left Connecting Plots, cummins&partners has revealed that the planning and strategy expert is joining the agency as its head of strategy.
In his new role, Collier will spearhead the company’s strategic thinking in relation to its clients across Melbourne, Sydney, Europe and the United States.
With a background in connections planning, social, digital, comms, and brand strategy, Collier’s resume covers a broad spectrum of organisations and brands, from Billabong Group and Boost Mobile to Tourism Australia, Coca-Cola Australia, Goodman Fielder and more.
His expertise in agencies and marketing – not to mention his ongoing presence as an industry panelist – is what encouraged cummins&partners’ global chief executive officer (CEO), Michael McConville, and Sydney general manager, Katherine Chen, to take him on board.
“Tim’s experience is just different and altogether rare in this industry,” McConville said.
“Often, we hire people we think have deep expertise in one thing, but that can often make it harder for an agency to consult clients towards the right solution, due to their pre-existing experience and biases.
“Our offering, where we’ve got people who are just great blended thinkers and problem-solvers, is just so vital in a quickly changing industry, with so much complexity, and so much new. I’ve loved getting to know Tim. I think he’s one of the sharpest, clearest thinkers I’ve met in a long, long time. We’re stoked.”
Chen added: “I’m so thrilled to have Tim on board.”
“I’ve known Tim for years, and we’ve been waiting for the right moment to work together again. His appointment represents another step in the continued evolution of our business, complementing our decades-long integrated offering and helps signpost the diverse shape and quality of the people we’re assembling.
“Tim will be instrumental in our continued growth, and he’ll do amazing things across our entire network.”
When asked about his latest appointment, Collier was equally excited, particularly at the prospect of working within an agency with a reputation he described as “inspirational”.
“I’m beyond excited to be joining the team,” Collier began, before continuing, “cummins&partner’s reputation, along with Sean’s body of work, is inspirational and is the kind of work I aspire to do.”
“I can still sing the Kraft peanut butter Elvis song. That spirit of entertaining creativity, contrarian originality and classic craftsmanship is what drives me.
“Being able to bring my experience in planning for new media environments, integration, and proven effectiveness just makes sense. I’m stoked to get started.”
Connecting Plots’ CEO Tom Phillips praised Collier’s “maturity and smarts” in a LinkedIn post over the weekend.
“Tim’s solid morals and values have made him an invaluable team member and a wonderful partner in crime. He’s never (ever) short of a point of view and he has wisdom beyond his years.
“Growing an agency is no easy task, and Tim has been committed, loyal, rigorous, and fearless throughout. Many would have bowed out when the going got tough, but Tim kept going and going.”
Collier will officially begin his new job on May 27.
