DDB Sydney acquires two new directors from Dig

The DDB Sydney creative team has grown with the addition of two new directors.

Anna Paine and Owen Bryson are the creative experts awarded the appointment. Prior to their new gig at DDB, Bryson and Paine spent three years at independent creative agency, Dig.

While there, Bryson filled the role of senior writer before becoming a creative director in mid-2022. Meanwhile, Paine served senior art director and creative director roles.

They facilitated The Bottle-O’s 2022 platform, ‘Good value booze, for good value people’, while helping the agency acquire Mitre 10’s and Australian Pork’s business.

The appointments mark a homecoming for the new creative directors who initially worked at DDB Sydney from mid-2014 to April 2021. During their first run at the agency, they developed the 2020 McDonald’s campaign, ‘Cravings’, which coincided with Mother’s Day. They also worked on the award-winning ‘A little goes a long way’ platform for the fast food chain.

“We basically grew up at DDB, so to say we’re happy to be home is a massive understatement,” Bryson and Paine said.

“It’s a world-class agency, with world-class people, and with Matt at the creative helm – who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”

Moving forward, the creative duo’s work with DDB will consist of developing “emotionally charged creativity” for a range of prolific brands, including Westpac, Lipton Iced Tea, Volkswagen and McDonald’s.

The agency’s chief creative officer, Matt Chandler, praised Paine and Bryson, saying that their return to DDB was destined.

“As a creative leader you sometimes have to make very difficult decisions; this was not one of them,” Chandler said.

“Anna and Owen were one of the best hires we ever made and, as I told them when they left, one day we’d be hiring them again. I’ve been very impressed, and very proud to see the work they’ve done with Dig – I know we’re very fortunate to have them return to DDB.”

The creative director appointments come into effect immediately.
