Meals on Wheels urges for more volunteers in new campaign via SAUCE

Recently rebranded creative agency SAUCE has developed a new volunteer recruitment campaign for Meals on Wheels South Australia.

With a new visual direction bringing contemporary style to the not-for-profit organisation, the campaign – led by a TVC – identifies the importance of volunteers and asks the audience to help ‘Keep The Wheels Turning’.

It emphasises the impact volunteers leave on the customers, and hopes to encourage more South Australians to sign up.

As little as 40% of Meals on Wheels’ volunteers recommenced the role after the Covid pandemic, with research showing they face barriers such as uncertainty about their suitability or about the requirements of the role.

The campaign works to break these down and showcase the fun and rewarding experience of being a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

It is the first major campaign SAUCE has created since rebranding, which it announced earlier this month.

Previously named Black Sheep Advertising, the agency came under new ownership in long-term employee Tom Ootes.

Of the new campaign, Ootes, who now serves as managing director of SAUCE, said: “Meals on Wheels is a fantastic organisation providing invaluable support to a large and growing segment of the community.

“They rely on volunteers to deliver this service, so this is a call to arms to South Australians to get involved.”

Co-creative director, David Ormston, added: “We wanted to show the great impact that volunteering has, and how it provides a sense of meaning and purpose.

“It’s not the meals alone that the customers get out of it, they really value the social aspect from the volunteer.”

The campaign has also rolled out across radio, OOH, and tactical collateral currently in market, with a media plan from dentsu’s Carat.

“To be able to work with Meals on Wheels to help recruit much needed volunteers is an incredible privilege,” Carat South Australia’s managing director, Adele Gibb, said. “…We are hopeful this campaign will really help turn the dial for Meals on Wheels so it can continue its excellent work in the community.”
