The Marketing Club announces inaugural board

The Marketing Club has unveiled its inaugural board as its enters a new phase of growth.

The Australasian marketing community launched in October 2022, and has since grown to over 10,000 members.

Designed to steer The Marketing Club into its next phase of growth — with a particular focus on growing in New Zealand — the board appointments bring together an “exceptional group of thinkers, doers and changemakers”.

The new board will drive the strategy behind The Marketing Club, champion the New Zealand community, and back marketers at every stage in their journey.

Chairing the new board is The Marketing Club’s founder Chanel Clark. She is a seasoned marketing consultant, with experience from Ārepa, Roam Digital, Backchat Media, and more. Clark founded the community to “create a more connected and empowered marketing landscape”.

“TMC was born out of a desire to create a safe space where marketers could connect, learn and grow,” she said in a media release on Tuesday.

“From coming up in my career and feeling lost more often than not, I wanted to build the thing that I wish had existed for me.”

Joining Clark on the board is marketing and creative stalwart Cassie Roma, who has over 20 years of experience in advertising, media, and entertainment. She has appeared on The Apprentice Aotearoa and Celebrity Treasure Island, but is now turning her attention to directing her first documentary.

Roma also hosts the Kindness Warriors podcast and is a strong advocate for LGBTQIA+ voices. Through this, she hopes to continue redefining what impactful marketing looks and sounds like.

The head of marketing at NZ-based brand Blunt Umbrellas, Fiona Cortis, also joins the board. With a strategic mind, and experience rebranding and growing brands, she will support Clark’s mission of growing The Marketing Club in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, representing the PR and comms frontline is Susie Thomson-Evans, general manager of CHPR. She has over 20 years of experience across Australia and the UK, championing B2B storytelling. Under her leadership, CHPR has supported more than 20 marketing-focused clients with subscription-based PR.

Finally, senior associate at Cowan Law, Oliver Sweeney, joins the board as a trusted advisor with a broad legal perspective.

“Appointing our first board is such an exciting moment because it sets us up with a fresh vision and the right people to take this organisation to the next stage,” Clark said in the media release.

“From thinking it was going to be a coffee meet up for 30 marketers, to now a community of 10,000 in under 3 years, we’re looking towards what the next phase of growth looks like and are ready to build something even bigger and more impactful for marketers across the country!”
