Snap Inc. announces new ANZ managing director

Social media technology company, Snap Inc., has unveiled Ryan Ferguson as its new managing director (MD) for Australia and New Zealand.

With the appointment coming into effect immediately, Ferguson steps into the MD role after serving as Snap Inc.’s head of sales since July 2024.

Ferguson will officially replace Tony Keusgen, who has departed the business after becoming its ANZ MD in May 2023.

Mumbrella has contacted Snap Inc. for comment on Keusgen’s departure.

Prior to joining the Snapchat owner, Ferguson completed a more-than-16-year stint at technology titan, Google. First joining it in 2008 as an industry manager, Ferguson worked his way up the ranks over the years, taking on various leadership roles before settling into his final position as director of mid market sales for AUNZ – a gig he held for close to one and a half years from April 2023 to July 2024.

“With Ryan’s relentless pursuit of delivering value for our clients and partners, as well as his demonstrated natural leadership, I am thrilled to have Ryan as Snap ANZ’s Managing Director,” said Snao Inc.’s APAC president, Ajit Mohan.

“With Ryan’s proven track record and customer-obsessed mindset, I have great confidence that he will drive business growth, deliver outstanding results for our partners and continue to grow and serve our community of 9.5 Million Snapchatters across the ANZ region.”

Ferguson shared his excitement at being given the wheel to the organisation for the New Zealand and Australian markets.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be leading Snap in Australia and New Zealand,” Ferguson said.

“Since joining the company earlier this year, the growth potential for Snap in this region has been evident, and I’m excited to be working with a refreshed team of talented, passionate people across the Tasman to realise this enormous opportunity.

“As we head into 2025, I’m focussed on continuing to drive full-funnel results for our partners in Australia and New Zealand.”

Ferguson’s appointment comes months after Colleen Decourcy – Snapchat’s global chief creative officer – sat down with Mumbrella to discuss a campaign that aimed to differentiate the social media platform from its peers.

It also comes in the wake of a rocky few weeks for social media platforms operating in Australia.

In early November, the Albanese Government officially announced a nationwide social media ban for people under the age of 16.

The legislation enforces a rule that requires social media companies, such as TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat, to bar young people from using their platforms. They risk receiving $50 million fines if they do not comply.
