Carat invests big in new strategy team, led by Spark Foundry’s Linda Fagerlund as chief strategy officer
Carat has unveiled a new-look strategy team, Mumbrella can reveal, led by a new chief strategy officer, Spark Foundry’s former national head of strategy, Linda Fagerlund.
The overhaul is the biggest move since CEO Sue Squillace joined last September from Spark Foundry – where she previously worked with Fagerlund – to rebuild a Carat that was haemorrhaging clients; Mondelēz International, Super Retail Group, Virgin Australia, Asahi, Amart, Bega, David Jones, and Disney were among them.

Sam Hegg Was Chief Strategy Officer of Carat from 2016 to 2018!
Hi Odd,
You’re completely right. The story was based off an interview with Sue, and a release, which said the position was “a first for the agency”.
I’ve gone back to Carat and it’s confirmed it’s the first time someone has filled the role since Sam, and it’s a new role under Sue. I’ve updated the headline and body of the story to reflect that, and be more accurate.
Thank you for the fact check,
Brittney – Mumbrella
Female CEO appoints two females to lead strat.
Looking at the company on LinkedIn, the Aus operations are about 70% female… Interesting.
Interesting because it’s more representative of the % of women that make up the media industry vs the usually stacked male leadership?
How in 2020 are we still discussing gender? The reality is amazing talent will win every time whether male or female and this is the case here.
Sam Hegg was CSO at Carat 2 years ago.
Hello,
You and ‘Odd’ have eagle eyes – thank you, and you’re right.
Thanks again,
Brittney – Mumbrella
Far from a “first”, but love their attempt and trying to spin it
Dream Team!
This is riddled with errors. Why does Mumbrella keep claiming David Jones was a “loss” when they resigned the client?
Also Sam Hegg was their CSO for years.
Gavin Ashcroft was also CSO before Sam… Crazy that no one has been at Carat long enough to remember…
I work here, waiting for the internal announcement….
May I suggest a new-look logo? The existing lock up is…basic.
This news makes me personally very happy. Sue has got the band back together. This team can move mountains. Smart move. Congrats Linda.
